The quality of our jewellery is extremely important to us and we want you to cherish and enjoy your purchase and keep your jewellery looking its best.

There are many unavoidable factors that can influence the brilliance of your jewellery, dust, pollution and oxidation of daily wear.

The single most important thing to do is store your jewellery in the resealable plastic pouch provided to prevent your jewellery from tarnishing and protecting it from scratches.

We strongly advise that you remove jewellery when bathing, showering or swimming because water and chemicals, especially chlorine are very damaging and can encourage silver to tarnish, erode the gold plating/vermeil and dull gemstones.

Always apply make-up, hair spray, scent and moisturiser before putting your jewellery on as the chemicals in these can affect the beauty and shine of your jewellery.

Remove jewellery when doing household tasks such as cleaning, playing sport or other strenuous activities because jewellery may become scratched and damaged.

Extreme temperatures and strong UV rays can cause gemstones to fade in colour and lose their original beauty, do not keep jewellery in direct sunlight and remove it whilst sunbathing.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil is a layer of gold usually 18 carats in purity over sterling silver with a thickness of at least 1.5 microns to 2.5 microns.

Never wear your gold vermeil jewellery in the shower or when swimming, chlorine, especially at high temperatures is especially damaging to it.

To clean, you can wash the item with a very mild soap and gently polish with a soft cloth.

Over time the gold vermeil will fade, this is unavoidable. We offer a re-plating service. For more information and a quotation please contact us at info@shakarajewellery.com

Sterling silver

All our silver designs are made from sterling silver, a precious metal that can tarnish gradually over time given its composition.

To minimise the speed of this process we advise you to always store your jewellery in the plastic resealable bag provided when the item is not being worn.

Remove your jewellery when swimming or in the shower as chemicals such as chlorine can damage the metal. To clean any silver jewellery without gemstones in them, you can use a silver cleaning cloth. We do not recommend using silver dip cleaners.

If the silver jewellery contains gemstones, we recommend that you gently polish the surface with a soft cloth, or you can wash it with a mild soap and lukewarm water before thoroughly rinsing and drying your jewellery.

Nickel is an allergen and we do not add Nickel to our silver however there may be trace amounts found in some of the metals.

Gemstones

Many natural gemstones are quite delicate and porous, particularly pearls, opals, turquoise and emeralds.

Harsh chemicals and cleaners, hairspray and perfumes should be avoided at all times.

Direct sunlight and heat can damage gemstones.

Clean your gemstones with a clean, soft damp cloth after wearing.

Store your gemstones out of direct sunlight, preferably in the resealable plastic bag provided and in the original box.
